Windowbox may also refer to Windowbox (film)

A windowbox or window box is a container for growing plants usually positioned outside a window and supported in place by brackets on the wall below.

A window box

Window boxes are often used by apartment-dwellers on higher floors, who do not otherwise have access to a garden or place to grow flowers, and allow the plants to be readily seen by those inside the property as well as outside. A window box is usually only 6"-8" (15-20cm) deep so may not support tall plants. Access for planting and maintenance can be via the window from indoors.

Deciding where to place your window box is very important. Keep in mind that as the plants mature in the window box, the view from the window may be obscured. If you’re trying to block an unsightly view, a window box is a great solution. You’ll also want to make sure that the location can tolerate water damage. Since you’ll be watering your plants frequently, you’ll want to avoid placing your window box over wicker chairs or other delicate outdoor furniture. Mounting a window box requires a bit of patience and skill. Make sure you have a measuring tape and power drill to help make the job easier.

Sometimes a box is placed inside a kitchen window in order to grow herbs or other supplies for a chef as an easily accessed miniature kitchen garden.
